Are great teachers born that way or do they learn to be that good? In the Spring 2013 issue of Inside the ART of TEACHING, we reflect on this question that inspired Lloyd Cotsen to found the Cotsen Foundation for the ART of TEACHING twelve years ago. Within these pages, we recognize the ways in which Cotsen teachers strive for greatness in their practice every day. We acknowledge those whose ART of TEACHING fellowship concludes at the end of this academic year and we welcome those whose fellowship begins at the start of the new school year. These dedicated teachers demonstrate that becoming a great teacher requires hard work, relentless focus, support from colleagues, resources from schools and districts, as well as training, workshops, and observations.
