On Saturday, March 2nd, nearly 200 educators gathered at Telesis Academy in Rowland Unified School District for the 2024 Empowered Learning Conference. Despite the rainy, cold weather, a diverse group of current and former fellows, mentors, and administrators attended the event, eager to engage in a day of professional growth.
Dr. Sonal Patel, Program Manager for Digital Learning and Computer Science Education at the San Bernardino County Superintendent of Schools, delivered the keynote speech. Dr. Patel emphasized the importance of empowering students through intentional technology use. A proponent of digital accessibility and inclusion, Dr. Patel championed culturally responsive teaching methods in blended and online learning environments.
Conference attendees chose from over a dozen breakout sessions, exploring topics such as using primary sources in the classroom, creating play areas for math discussions, supporting emergent bilinguals, enhancing students’ social- emotional well-being, leveraging family engagement, and culturally responsive teaching.
A special thank you to Telesis Academy for hosting the event, the presenters for sharing their expertise, and all the attendees for your participation and support!
