End-of-Year Luncheon & Celebration of Graduates

On May 16 , the Skirball Cultural Center hosted a memorable gathering of the Cotsen community as we celebrated this year’s graduates. Held in the Cotsen Auditorium, a space that reflects the vision and generosity of the late Mr. Lloyd Cotsen, the event carried a quiet sense of gratitude for the man whose belief in the transformative power of great teaching continues to guide the fellowship. The program opened with welcoming reflections from the Cotsen Foundation’s President and CEO, Barry Munitz, and Board Chair, Jonathan Victor, who acknowledged the energy and dedication the 2026 cohort brought to their fellowship journey. Associate Director Julie Graham then introduced a series of speakers whose voices shaped the heart of the day. Fellows Jose Rodriguez, Krista Hebel, Lisa Gomez, and Alyssa Mae Caalim-Kim shared candid stories of challenge and transformation. Mentor Jacqueline Belloso offered a powerful reminder of the impact effective mentorship has on both teaching and learning.

Each message resonated differently, yet every one honored the fellowship’s deep commitment to growth. Executive Director Jerry Harris next recognized the collective accomplishments of educators representing 16 schools across 7 districts, emphasizing the ripple effect their work creates in classrooms and communities. Barry Munitz concluded the program with a special tribute in honor of Jerry Harris and his 19 years of steadfast leadership as Executive Director. A warm luncheon and lively conversations carried the event forward, reinforcing a sentiment felt by all: the Cotsen connection doesn’t end at graduation — it continues to shape who they are as educators because “once a Cotsen, always a Cotsen.”
